Now a days the marine alga which is commonly called as the seaweeds are widely used in both the industrial and agricultural sectors.
Seaweeds are a very good source of vitamins and minerals so they are being consumed due to this property in a widespread part of the world. Due to the presence of the vitamins and minerals they are a very good health food. Usually their growth pattern resembles to that of the weeds. Seaweeds grow over vast stretches in the water. The growth of the seaweeds is very common in our country India also. In India, seaweeds are very common in the southern coastal regions. In the southern coastal region its growth is very dense. More than 100 species of the alga are found in the southern region of India. Some species of the alga are suited for the growth by the farmers which provide them a good economical growth and prosperity.
Types of alga
One of the red alga named Kappaphycus is good for the cultivation by the coastal fishermen. This alga provide a substance called carrangeenan, which is used to make many food products, drugs and cosmetics. One more red alga named as Gracillaria is used as a raw material for the commercial production of agar. Growing alga can boost the economy of the fishermen as this is a simple task for them.
Cultivation of seaweeds
By the seaweed cultivation the fishermen can earn a lot of foreign exchange and boost their economic growth to a large extent. By growing alga farmers can get a number of profits. This work is of the area of interest of the fishermen of the coastal areas and also simple for them. The women of the fishermen can do the work in the surplus time earning a lot of extra money with the experience to do something new. By doing the cultivation of alga, the farmers not only boost their income but also they provide profit to their own country by earning the foreign money to a large extent
